Top Five read aloud picks from The Storybook Mom!

Tomorrow is the first ever World Read Aloud Day. Pam Allyn author of “What to Read When”, and founder of LitWorld created this day to celebrate the wonderfulness of reading aloud to our children, or to anybody for that matter.

When we read out loud to our kids there is a super-special thing that happens. Everybody slows down, we focus on each other and the story, and we share an adventure together.

For today’s Top Five Tuesday post I’ve invited one of Chicago’s most popular storytellers Ms. Nili Yelin to share her five most favorite books to read aloud to her audiences.

Nili is known for making books come to life for children as well as teaching grown-ups how to make reading aloud to kids an amazing experience for everyone. She’s a performer at heart and has a nack for drawing kids in and presenting books in unusually new and exciting ways.

Here are Nili’s top five favorite storybooks to share with your kids right now:
1. Little Pea by Amy Krouse Rosenthal–find out what he doesn’t like at all. A fun, quirky vegetable tale.

2. Spoon by Amy Krouse Rosenthal–yes, one of the latest from my favorite kids book author about a Spoon who thinks Fork, Knife and Chopsticks have it so much better. Learn why Spoon is fabulous and how Spoon’s mom comforts him.

3. Bark, George by Jules Feiffer–George can’t bark, find out why and go to the vet who finds a solution, or does he?

4. Pinkalicious by Victoria and Elizabeth Cann–Celebrate the love of PINK and cupcakes–when is it too much? Or is it ever?

5. Ain’t Gonna Paint No More by Karen Beaumont and David Catrow–a delightful romp through self expression through painting–using yourself as the canvas….let loose and have fun, but do not try this at home!

  1. lol most of the feedback many people make are silly and unrelated, oftentimes i contemplate if they actually read the pieces and reports before placing a comment or if perhaps they actually look at the title of the article and jot down the first thing that drifts into their minds. in either case, it really is pleasant to look over smart commentary occasionally instead of the very same, classic post vomit which i commonly discover on the net i’m off to take up a couple of hands of facebook poker farewell
